Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Agricultural Exports.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

44 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give the value of agricultural exports, expressed as a proportion of total exports, in 1989 and 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Exports of food, live animals and drink for 1989 are estimated to have been close to £3.5 million in 1989, exclusive of the value of EC export refunds. This figure represents 24 per cent of the value of total exports and is 12 per cent higher than in 1988 due principally to the strong performance of the dairy produce and meat export sectors. I am hopeful that this very satisfactory outcome can be repeated in 1990.
