Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Clerihan) National School Teacher.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

110 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education, in view of the increased number of students at Clerihan national school, Clonmel, County Tipperary, when she intends to appoint an extra teacher at this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The staffing of national schools for a particular school year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement reached between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery. Under this agreement the appointment of an additional teacher to the school is not warranted in the current school year.

The authorised staffing of this school in the current year is principal plus one assistant teacher. The appointment of an additional teacher for the 1990-91 school year is not warranted by the enrolment in the school on 30 September 1989.
