Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Playschool.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

114 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a local playschool in Brookfield, Tallaght, Dublin 24, which has served the parents and children of the area very well for the past four years in St. Brigid's national school, will no longer be able to operate there; if she will take steps to arrange with the national school concerned that the playgroup be allowed continue as before and that alternative arrangements be made for Scoil Caitlín Maud to obtain accommodation in some other way without disturbing this playgroup; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The situation was first brought to my attention late last week by my colleague, Deputy Flood. The matter is primarily the responsibility of the national school authorities having regard to the fact that it is a condition of the lease under which the school is vested that the building be used where required for national school purposes. I have already arranged that my Department's officials discuss the whole matter with the Brookfield school authorities and other relevant parties in an effort to resolve the difficulties. The Deputy will be aware that this situation has only arisen from the recent approval of a concessionary post for the Brookfield school.
