Vol. 395 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant and Loan Scheme Eligibility.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

242 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if he agrees that the income eligibility clause for both the house improvement grant scheme and the house purchase loan scheme, as administered by the local authorities, are unrealistic and have fallen behind inflation; and if he will increase the eligibility rates to a realistic level.

I have no proposals at present to increase the income eligibility limit for house purchase and improvement loans. I am not aware that the requirements for loan finance of persons ineligible for local authority loans due to the income limit are not at present adequately catered for by the financial institutions. There are no income eligibility limits in respect of improvement grants operated by the local authorities.
