Vol. 395 No. 9

Written Answers. - Comhairle na nOspidéal Decision.

Dermot Fitzpatrick

Question:

260 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for Health the basis for the decision of Comhairle na nOspidéal that operative neurosurgery is no longer to be carried out in the Children's Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin 1.

Comhairle na nOspidéal is a body established under section 41 of the Health Act, 1970, which has statutory authority to regulate the number and type of appointments of consultant medical posts.

I understand from Comhairle na nOspidéal that the decision was reached because of the advantages which will emanate from having all neurosurgery, including paediatric neurosurgery, taking place in one location in Beaumont Hospital where one of the most modern neurosurgical facilities in Europe is available.
