Question:

306 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the number of detections which have been made under the new Transport Act, 1986, by transport officers in relation to the hire of unlicensed transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Specific details are not available for the type of offence outlined in the Deputy's question. Overall detections by transport officers of this Department, of infringements of the Road Transport Acts, including the Road Transport Act, 1986, are given in the table provided for the years 1987, 1988 and up to September 1989.

These offences include the operation of a haulage business without a carrier's licence, failure to carry a copy of licence on a vehicle and failure to have a vehicle authorised on a carrier's licence in accordance with the Transport Acts.
