Vol. 395 No. 9

Written Answers. - Unified Germany.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

90 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Finance if any assessment is being made of the likely impact for the Irish economy of a unified Germany.

International developments, and in particular those bearing on the European Community, are kept under ongoing review, especially from the standpoint of their potential implications for the Irish economy. The Government are aware of the significance of the emerging relationship between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. Nevertheless, until the economic and monetary conditions under which the two German States may come together become clearer, it is not possible to reach any firm conclusions as to how they may affect our economy.
