Question:

96 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance if he proposes to nominate any local authority to the standing conference of local and regional authorities of Europe set up by the Council of Europe.

The Conference of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe was established by the Council of Europe. Appointments are made to the conference based on nominations from member states, sought through the Minister for Foreign Affairs. These nominations are made on the advice of the Minister for the Environment who seeks nominations from the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland and the General Council of County Councils. The following nominees were put forward by those bodies and have been notified to the Council of Europe:
