Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Liam Hyland

Question:

119 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in payment of arrears of reactor grants to a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

The delay in making this payment resulted from an industrial dispute at the local district veterinary office combined with a shortage of staff there. These problems have been resolved and payment will be made to the person named in the near future.

Question:

120 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in payment of an installation aid grant to a person (details supplied) in County Laois.

The premium in this case will be paid inside the next few weeks.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

121 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a beef cow premium will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person named has been paid his 1989 EC suckler cow and calf premium schemes grants already.

He is not eligible for grants under the beef cow and equines headage scheme as his lands are not situated in a less severely handicapped area. He did not apply under the EC special beef premium scheme.

Brian Cowen

Question:

122 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the grants which are available from his Department for the provision of roads into farm holdings where such roads are not in the charge of the local authority; and if any grants are restricted to areas within the disadvantaged areas scheme.

Grants are available under the farm improvement programme and the revised western package in respect of farm roadways for agricultural purposes only.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Question:

123 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if headage payments will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare.

The person named is 11 years old and is not eligible for payment under the disadvantaged areas scheme which is restricted to persons of 18 years of age or over.

His grandmother applied for grants in her own name in 1989 but subsequently transferred her land to her daughter-in-law and to the person named (the grandson). The case is further complicated by the possibility that the herd of the grandmother was intermixed with that of her son at the time of application. In the circumstances, the case is being investigated by Departmental staff at present and a decision on whether payment should be withheld or made will be reached only when that investigation is completed.

Liam Hyland

Question:

124 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in payment of a beef and calf subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

Payments to this applicant under the 1989 beef cow and equines headage, EC special beef and calf premium schemes are being processed and will issue shortly.

As these payments are being made with many others, there is no particular delay in this case.
