Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Access to Mountains and State Forests.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

159 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Justice whether he has completed the feasibility study on the question of developing legislation which will give greater protection to the State and other landowners, in the context of allowing greater access to the mountains and State forests; if the feasibility study is complete, the proposals, if any, he has to deal with the problem; if the feasibility study is not complete, the progress, if any, which is being made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It appears that the Deputy may have misunderstood a reference to a study of the law on this matter contained in a reply by my predecessor to Questions Nos. 7 and 46 on 20 April 1989 (Dáil Debate: Vol. 388 at col. 2410). It was to the effect that one way of dealing with the matter would be to have the Law Reform Commission undertake such a study and that this aspect was the subject of correspondence with the Attorney General.

No decision has yet been reached in the matter.
