Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cork Relief Road.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

191 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a proposal from Cork County Council to construct a relief road from Ballyclough Cross to Beechers Street, Mallow, County Cork; if it is intended to sanction such a proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1982, the local authority submitted technical proposals to my Department for a relief road at this location, which would connect the N20 and the N72. At the same time, the authority requested the provision of road grant funding to enable the early commencement of the scheme mainly because of proposals for a quarry development at Lacknamona. It is understood that the quarry development did not proceed.

There are no funds available in my Department for this scheme because of competing demands for capital for higher priority schemes.
