Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Non-Ionising Radiation.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

198 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Health if he will allocate money to the North Eastern Health Board to enable it to monitor the health of residents in an area around the Radio Tara mast in County Meath on an on-going basis over the next ten to 15 years in order that the effects, if any, of non-ionising radiation may be measured.

The level of resources devoted by health boards to the monitoring of epidemiological patterns in the community is a matter for each individual board to address within its allocation. However, I am satisfied that adequate resources are available to health boards generally for this purpose.

Arrangements are well advanced for the establishment of a national cancer register which will collect, classify and record information relating to the occurrence and development of cancer.
