200 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the resolution passed by Leixlip Town Commission, County Kildare, requesting the stationing of a cardiac ambulance in the area; if it is intended to accede to this request; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
201 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health if he has received a report from the Eastern Health Board on the recent trial allocation of a special cardiac ambulance for the greater Dublin area; if it is intended to publish the report of the evalution; if it is intended to continue with the use of a special cardiac ambulance in the greater Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 200 and 201 together.
The provision of ambulance services is a matter for each health board in the first instance. The cardiac ambulance service in the Dublin area has been in operation since 1979 and now responds to around 5,000 cardiac calls per year. A number of reports on this service have been sent to my Department over the years and I understand that the Eastern Health Board intends to continue with the use of the special cardiac ambulance service in the greater Dublin area.
Any request by the Leixlip Town Commissioners for an extension to the cardiac service is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance.
