Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Admission of Patient to Hospital.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

210 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health, having regard to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 75 of 15 February, 1990, the way in which the person concerned will obtain a hospital bed having regard to the fact that the person's general practitioner has already indicated the urgency of the case to the consultant involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I have already explained to the Deputy in my reply to his recent parliamentary question the admission of a patient to hospital is a matter for the clinical judgment of the consultant concerned who assesses each patient and determines the priority to be attached to each case. The patient in question is on the priority waiting list for admission. I have conveyed the Deputy's concern to the Eastern Health Board.
