Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Faranree (Cork) School.

Bernard Allen

Question:

221 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if north Presentation secordinary school, Farranree, Cork, will be allowed to retain the three teachers over quota for 1990 to 1991.

A redeployment scheme for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools is to be implemented as a result of an agreement between the religious/clerical authorities of the Catholic secondary schools and the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland.

The agreement establishes agreed procedures by which lay teachers may be redeployed to full time teaching posts within a 30 mile radius in the event of a closure of a secondary school, or where the number of teachers who may be paid incremental salary is required to be reduced in accordance with the rules for the payment of incremental salary to secondary teachers.

Under the terms of the scheme, the authorities of this school have submitted an appeal to my Department against the redeployment of teachers from the school. The appeal is being considered at present and I will arrange to have the outcome communicated to the Deputy as soon as possible.
