Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ronanstown, Dublin, Crime Level.

Tomás MacGiolla

Question:

34 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the high level of vandalism, car theft and crime in the Ronanstown area of County Dublin, he intends to deploy community gardaí in the area; if he intends to appoint a juvenile liaison officer for this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Garda authorities are aware of the concern of local residents about crime in Ronanstown. Special measures have been taken to deal with particular crimes such as car thefts and stonethrowing by local youths and these have met with success. The Garda authorities are encouraged by this success and are continuing to take all necessary steps to keep these problems under control.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that two community gardaí are already assigned to Ronanstown station and that the question of allocating additional such members there will be considered in the context of a further expansion of the community policing scheme.

A garda juvenile liaison officer based at Ballyfermot district headquarters provides a full JLO service for the Ronanstown sub-district.
