Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Station and Courthouse Improvements.

Séamus Pattison

Question:

45 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline his programme of work for carrying out improvements to Garda stations and courthouses in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the Garda station building programme work is underway or will be starting this year on 12 new stations, nearly all of district or divisional headquarters size, and planning is at an advanced stage on several more large new stations. In addition major improvement works are underway or will be starting this year at over 20 Garda stations. Other improvements and ongoing maintenance works, including redecoration etc., are also underway, at or planned for approximately 50 further stations.

Improvements to courthouses outside Dublin are the responsibility of local authorities. In Dublin the Office of Public Works hope to commence work on providing additional courtrooms in the Four Courts and on renovating the District Courthouse in Chancery Street.
