Question:

72 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the strength of the probation service in terms of personnel; if he is satisfied that the service is at adequate strength; if he has any plans to improve the situation in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The numbers of serving staff in the probation and welfare service at present are as follows:—

I am satisfied that the service continues to meet the demands being placed upon it.
Staffing levels will be augmented in the near future by the appointment of the following additional staff: 1 Senior Probation and Welfare Officer, 4 Probation and Welfare Officers, 1 Clerical Assistant (Typist).
