Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Garda Stations.

Michael Ferris

Question:

73 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied with the condition of each Garda station in County Tipperary; if he has any plans for improvements or refurbishments in respect of facilities in that county in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As Minister for Justice I am anxious to ensure that, within the financial resources available to me, all Garda stations, including those in County Tipperary, are brought up to modern standards as soon as practicable.

In recent years new stations have been provided in County Tipperary at Nenagh, Littleton and Holycross. Work is underway on a new station at Borrisoleigh and a new district headquarters at Tipperary is at an advanced planning stage.
Stations in County Tipperary where improvements are already underway or will be carried out this year include Clonmel, Templemore, Newport, Roscrea, Golden and Clogheen. In addition major improvement schemes are planned for Thurles, Carrick-on-Suir and Cahir. Ongoing maintenance work will also be carried out where the need is identified and the budgetary situation permits.
