Vol. 396 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increases in Charges.

Séamus Pattison

Question:

7 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Communications if he will outline the increases in telephone and postal charges which he envisages in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A price increase averaging 7.5 per cent in postal charges was introduced by An Post on 1 January 1990. I do not envisage any further increases in postal or telephone charges in 1990. In fact, Telecom Éireann have announced major reductions in national and cross-channel private circuits, varying from 20 per cent to over 70 per cent, which will be of great benefit to Irish business customers in reducing their costs.
