Vol. 396 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Privatisation Plans.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

9 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Communications if he has any plans to privatise Network 2; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dick Spring

Question:

26 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Communications if he has any plans to privatise any of the agencies or companies under his control in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 9 and 26 together. I have no plans to privatise any of the agencies or companies under my control.

Will the Minister agree that for Network 1 or Network 2 to use the current affairs section as a supplement to their public relations section is an abuse of power? Will he convey that view to the Director General of RTE given the recent programme done by RTE's "Today Tonight" on Century Radio?

There is a Broadcasting Complaints Commission available to the Deputy if he wishes to make those complaints as I have no intention of interfering in the day to day operations of RTE. However, I have my own views about the programme.

The Minister would. What about Patrick Gallagher?

We are talking about the programme on Century Radio.

What about——

This is grossly disorderly, the Deputy should allow the Minister to answer the next question.
