Vol. 396 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment of Accountants.

Michael Noonan

Question:

97 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance if the Revenue Commissioners or his Department intend employing chartered accountants in the near future; if qualified chartered accountants will be eligible to apply for any other vacancies which may occur in the course of 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the intention to recruit chartered accountants in the near future to accountant posts in my Department or in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners apart from the continuation of an arrangement whereby two accountants are seconded to my Department from elsewhere within the public service. Qualified chartered accountants are, however, eligible to compete at competitions for inspector of taxes, administrative officer and executive officer. An open competition for inspector of taxes will be advertised by the Civil Service Commission shortly but it has not yet been decided whether further open competitions for administrative officer and executive officer will be advertised in the course of 1990.
