Vol. 396 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Brian Cowen

Question:

39 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange for payment of disablement benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

The person concerned claimed disablement benefit under the occupational injuries scheme on 6 February 1990 in respect of the prescribed disease occupational deafness.

A claim of this type can only be admitted if the claimant was employed in a prescribed occupation. The details and nature of the relevant occupation are being confirmed from his employers. A decision on the admissibility of the claim will be made as soon as a detailed reply is received. If the claim is admissible, a medical assessment of the disablement will be arranged.

The claimant is also in receipt of disability benefit since 6 October 1988 in respect of a different incapacity and all disability benefit is paid to the date of the latest medical certificate received.

Phil Hogan

Question:

40 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an increase in an old age non-contributory pension will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The person concerned is due to be interviewed shortly by a social welfare officer in connection with the re-investigation of his case. On completion of the necessary inquiries, his case will be referred for decision and he will be notified of the outcome accordingly.
