Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Inheritance Tax.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

27 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the anxiety among the farming community regarding the level of inheritance tax.

Farming is already favourably treated for capital acquisitions tax purposes as a result of the special relief on agricultural land. The farming sector will, in common with other sectors, benefit from the annual adjustment of thresholds, in line with inflation, that I announced in this year's budget. I am also introducing a measure to facilitate the transfer of property owned by one spouse into the joint ownership of both spouses.
