Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Customs and Excise Staff.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

32 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance the consideration which has been given to the position of Customs and Excise staff following the completion of the Internal Market; the way in which it is intended to deploy these staff in the post-1992 situation; if he has had any discussions with the trade union concerned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At this stage it is not possible to accurately assess the staffing implications in the Customs and Excise area in advance of definite proposals emerging in relation to the completion of the Internal Market. The Revenue Commissioners are having ongoing discussions with the trade unions concerned and are keeping the situation under constant review.
