Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

43 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans for the development of inland waterways in the south-east.

The only waterway in the southeast for which the Commissioners of Public Works have responsibility at present is the Barrow navigation which reaches to St. Mullins. This will be developed in accordance with the guidelines of the Brady Shipman Martin report which was published in 1987. I expect that significant progress will be made over the next few years in improving facilities and enhancing the amenity value of the navigation as additional funding is made available for the development of inland waterways.
