Vol. 397 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tipperary By-pass Proposals.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

93 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if there are plans for a by-pass of Tipperary town; if moneys are available for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tipperary (South Riding) County Council have proposals for the provision of a by-pass of Tipperary town. I understand that these proposals are at a very preliminary stage.

The phasing of major road improvement projects in the period 1990 to 1993 has been considered in the context of the preparation of the operational programme for roads and other transport infrastructure. A draft of the programme, which has been prepared in accordance with the Community Support Framework for Ireland, has been submitted to the EC Commission. The programme does not provide for the construction of a by-pass of Tipperary.

The provision of funds and the timing of construction of the proposed Tipperary by-pass will fall to be considered when proposals for major road improvements for the period after 1993 are being prepared.
