Ivan Yates

Question:

131 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an old age non-contributory pension was not increased in line with that of his spouse in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The spouse of the person concerned reached 80 years on 6 January 1990 and was awarded an over 80 allowance of £3.70 per week from the following Friday 12 January 1990.

The person concerned was not awarded an increase in his old age non-contributory pension, in line with his spouse, as he will not attain the age of 80 years until 9 February 1994.

Question:

132 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Social Welfare when disability benefit payments will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if they will be paid for the person concerned and his two children.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 22 February 1990 and payment was authorised from 26 February 1990 at a weekly rate of £66.80 which is the maximum payable to a claimant with two dependent children. However, before payment could be issued certain details were sought from the person concerned and these were supplied on 12 March 1990.

A cheque for £105.00 issued to him on 20 March 1990 which represents the total due to 14 March 1990 less £62 which was held for repayment to the health board in respect of supplementary welfare advanced to him.
