Written Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Enterprise Centre.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

158 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Environment if he will change the criteria for grant aid funds from the national lottery for community grants to include certain categories of enterprise centres; if he will consider, in particular, the requirements of Rosehill House, Finglas Road, Dublin 11 which is being refurbished by the Fingal Development Group Ltd. and which is providing a base for a community enterprise and a valuable community resource.

The aim of the amenities/ recreational facilities grants scheme, 1990 is to assist in the carrying out of projects of an amenity, recreational, leisure or environmental improvement nature, other than projects which are primarily of a commercial nature. I have no proposals to extend the scope of the scheme along the lines suggested by the Deputy.

Enterprise centres, as such, are not eligible for assistance under the scheme but the provision of facilities of a recreational nature in association with them could be considered for grant aid provided that the conditions of the scheme are met. Dublin Corporation have included a number of such centres, including the centre referred to by the Deputy, in the list of projects which they have recommended to me for grant purposes. These applications will be considered in association with the other applications received and having regard to all the relevant factors.
