Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - Killarney, Kerry, Hospital Accommodation.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

170 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that there is no overcrowding in wards at St. Finan's Hospital, Killarney, County Kerry.

On the inspector of mental hospital's last statutory inspection of St. Finan's Hospital, Killarney in July, 1989, he reported that there was some overcrowding at the hospital. However, the situation will be significantly improved this year as the Southern Health Board intends to transfer admission facilities from St. Finan's Hospital to Tralee General Hospital and to further develop community psychiatric services in County Kerry which will allow more patients to be discharged to community facilities.
