Vol. 397 No. 3

Written Answers. - Birmingham Six Case.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

74 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs , further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 24 of 13 March 1990, if he will outline the response of the Foreign Affairs Council at their meeting of 19 December 1989 on the Birmingham Six case; and the action which will be undertaken in the case by the Council.

The Council of Ministers at their meeting of 18-19 December 1989 had before it the resolution of the European Parliament of 22 November on the Birmingham Six case and heard statements in relation to it on behalf of the Irish and British Governments. The Council, as is its usual practice, took note of the Parliament's Resolution. The Government's statement welcomed, inter alia, the interest and concern shown by the Parliament and repeated the Taoiseach's call for a complete review of the case.
