Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - Handicapped Person's Training Application.

Michael Barrett

Question:

153 Mr. M. Barrett asked the Minister for Health the present position in relation to an application made by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 who is handicapped for a place as a day student in a workshop at St. Michael's House, Ballymun Road, Dublin 9; and if there are any plans to have additional funding made available in order that the person concerned may be admitted as a day student.

The person involved is on the priority waiting list for a five day service at St. Michael's House Adult Training Centre, Ballymun, Dublin 11. I have recently allocated an additional £1 million for the development of mental handicap services in the Eastern Health Board region; £235,000 of this amount was for the provision of, inter alia, day facilities in St. Michael's House. Assessments for these places are being finalised and placements will be made shortly.
