Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - CERT Services.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

34 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Labour if he has any plans to expand the range of services offered by CERT in 1990; if he has any plans to encourage relationships between CERT and the private sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1990, CERT will train over 9,000 people which represents an increase of 16 per cent on the numbers trained in 1989. The CERT non-capital budget for 1990 is £7.5 million, compared with £6.2 million in 1989, comprising £3.2 million Exchequer, £3.9 million European Social Fund and £0.4 million own income.

The main private interests in the hotel, catering and tourism industry are represented on the council of CERT and can thus influence the type of training and other services provided. This of necessity ensures close liaison between the private sector of industry and CERT. This liaison is essential to ensure that CERT provides the right type of training and that the industry provides employment conditions that will attract people to stay in the industry in Ireland when trained.
I might add that the private sector increased their financial contribution to CERT in 1989.
