Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rights Commissioners.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

63 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Labour if he has any plans to decentralise the Office of Rights Commissioner by appointing additional Rights Commissioners outside the Dublin area in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are at present four rights commissioners. Three are based in Dublin and one is based in Cork. The commissioners travel to hear cases throughout the country, as the need arises. These arrangements are working satisfactorily. The number and distribution of cases being referred to the rights commissioner service at present would not justify the appointment of additional commissioners to serve outside the Dublin area.
