Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - EC Meetings.

Edward Nealon

Question:

111 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the approximate number of meetings held in Brussels and elsewhere abroad relating to Ireland's membership of the EC which were attended by officials of his Department in 1989; and the approximate number of officials in attendance.

The approximate number of EC meetings attended by officials of my Department in 1989 was 920. The meetings involved included the Council of Ministers (Agriculture), the Special Committee on Agriculture, Council Working Groups, Management Committees and EC Commission Expert Working Groups. Irish representation amounted to about 1,320 officials (i.e. about 1.5 per meeting).
