Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Personnel.

Paul McGrath

Question:

124 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice the numbers employed in all Garda stations in Westmeath and their ranks for each of the years from 1987 to 1990 inclusive; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Paticulars of Garda stength assigned to stations in County Westmeath on 31 December in each of the years 1987 to 1989 and on 28 February 1990 are set out in the following table.

The allocation of Garda manpower to individual stations varies from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances. The Garda authorities inform me that the current Garda strengths in Westmeath are adequate to meet present policing needs and that manning levels in the county will be kept under review in the light of overall resources and other demands on Garda services.
