Dick Spring

Question:

128 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath has been refused a sheep subsidy in 1989 and 1990.

The person named has not been refused any sheep subsidies in 1989 and 1990. He did not apply for the 1988 ewe premium which was paid in 1989 and payment of the 1989 and 1990 premiums, for which he has applied, has not yet commenced. The question may however, refer to the 1987 ewe premium scheme for which an application was submitted in January 1988 for 486 ewes. At the inspection in June 1988, 460 ewes were presented of which 110 had already been presented and ear notched in another flock. This meant that he did not maintain 486 eligible ewes for 100 days as he was required to do under the conditions of the scheme and accordingly premium was refused.
