Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - TB Eradication Scheme.

William Cotter

Question:

147 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give a progress report of the TB eradication scheme in County Monaghan, and in particular if he will provide statistics of the number of reactors which were detected in each of the years 1987, 1988 and 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the director of ERAD that the TB eradication scheme in County Monaghan is ongoing with the commencement on 19 March of the 1990 round of testing which is proceeding satisfactorily.

The programme has been specially geared to ensure that those areas which have the highest incidence of TB infection will be tested by the end of August. These areas will then undergo special check testing during the remainder of the 1990 round.

The number of reactors detected in 1987, 1988 and 1989 were 737, 1,135 and 2,634 respectively.
