Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Slaughter House Licence.

Phil Hogan

Question:

156 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a full licence for a slaughter house will be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The firm in question was issued with a permit, valid for six months, under the Abattoirs Act, 1988. An inspection of the abattoir premises will take place as soon as possible to determine whether a licence will be issued or, if the premises have not reached licensing standard, whether a further permit would be warranted.

Under the Act premises which do not meet licensing standards may, in the five year period following enactment, be issued pemits where owners indicate an intention to bring premises up to standard and where such premises are capable of being so upgraded.
