Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Meath Employment Exchanges.

John Bruton

Question:

187 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will indicate the improvements which will take place at employment exchanges in County Meath, under his £4.2 million programme for improvements to employment exchanges during 1990.

Services to the unemployed in County Meath are administered through branch employment offices located at Navan, Kells and Trim. These are operated by private individuals under the terms of a contract for service which they have each entered into with my Department. Under the contracts, each branch manager must provide accommodation and maintain it in a satisfactory way.

Officials of my Department routinely monitor the levels of service and facilities provided at all branch employment offices.

The programme of improvements to which the Deputy refers relates only to employment exchanges which are operated directly by the Department of Social Welfare. For this reason it does not apply to any of the branch employment offices in County Meath or elsewhere.
