Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Motor Tax and Insurance Certificates.

Tony Gregory

Question:

192 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the large number of trucks, trailers and other vehicles parked in or near a location (details supplied) in Dublin 1 and which are apparently owned by a person (details supplied) who does not display tax or insurance certificates and who is known to the Garda; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware that, on occasion, a large number of vehicles have been parked at the location referred to by the Deputy. Parking is permitted in this location and the vehicles in question are not causing an obstruction. I have also been informed that the owner of these vehicles has on several occasions been asked by the Garda, following approaches to them from local residents, to remove the vehicles to an off-street location.

The Garda authorities have also indicated that the area in question is subject to a high level of enforcement of the parking regulations and of the law relating to the display of current tax discs. I am informed that 44 "fine-on-the-spot" notices have been issued to vehicles parked in the area during the first three months of this year.
