Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Local Authorities Waste Recycling Schemes.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

246 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if he has issued guidelines to each local authority to enable them to prepare a recycling scheme for waste disposal and recycling for their own areas by the end of June 1990 identifying recycling possibilities and setting out how they will facilitate and promote such activity, having regard to the undertaking given by him in the environmental action programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A circular on this matter has issued to local authorities. In asking the authorities to prepare recycling schemes for their areas, my Department offered a number of suggestions which should help local authorities to play a more positive role in recycling in their areas.
