Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Funding of Works of Art.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

256 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to a document (details supplied) prepared by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions; the steps he proposes to take to ensure its widespread distribution; the measures he will take to encourage full utilisation of the provisions established by his Department in relation to the funding of works of art to a maximum value of £20,000 or 1 per cent of a construction project within their areas of responsibility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The distribution and promotion of the document referred to by the Deputy is a matter for the bodies concerned.

Details of the artistic features scheme operated by my Department have been notified to each county council, county borough corporation, borough corporation and urban district council. A decision to include an artistic feature in a project is a matter for the relevant local authority in the first instance.
