Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dog Wardens.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

268 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that dog wardens appointed by local authorities are not properly equipped to perform their duties under the law, having regard to the fact that they are not allowed carry firearms; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The equipment of dog wardens is a matter for the relevant local authority. However, the use of firearms does not appear to arise in relation to any of the powers or duties of dog wardens pursuant to the Control of Dogs Act, 1986, or any regulations or by-laws made thereunder.
