Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

Frank Crowley

Question:

270 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for the Environment the reason elderly people in receipt of the widow's pension, 66 years and over, must have a PRSI number when in fact they have a widow's pension number already for the purpose of applying for a disabled person's grant and most other grants from local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As part of the Government's measures to improve tax administration, the payment of all grants by public authorities, including Government Departments and local authorities, is conditional on grant applicants furnishing certain details of their tax affairs, including a tax reference number.
