Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Consultant Neurosurgeon Appointment.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

291 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if an interview for the post of consultant neurosurgeon with special interest in paediatrics is due to be held in early May at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9; if he considers that this appointment should be postponed, in light of the current inquiry into the state of the neuro-surgical clinical services at Beaumont which have been referred to the Medical Council by the board of Beaumont Hospital for advice; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The appointment of staff, including consultant medical staff, is a matter for the Beaumont Hospital authorities. In these circumstances, the holding of interviews and the filling of posts are matters for the hospital, in which I have no function.
