Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Admission to Intermediate Certificate Examination.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

322 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare to sit the intermediate certificate examination in the current year; if she is further aware that this child is extremely advanced in her studies and that failure to allow her to sit the examination, notwithstanding her age, will seriously interfere with her early plans to attend university; if she accepts that this is a unique situation and if she will give favourable consideration to allow the examination to proceed in the current year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that, as an exceptional matter, I have already decided that this candidate should be admitted to the intermediate certificate examination this year. The school authorities in question have also been notified of my decision.
