Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tallaght, Dublin, College Project.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

323 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education the up to date position on the regional technical college in Tallaght; when the construction will commence and be completed, the projected student numbers for each of the four departments; and if she will provide an estimated breakdown in those numbers between students currently resident in Dublin and those from the rest of the country.

Construction work on Tallaght Regional Technical College has commenced and it is anticipated that the college will open in early 1992. When fully operational the college will have three departments, i.e. engineering, science and business studies departments catering for 1,200 students. The precise nature and level of individual courses and associated enrolments will be determined following further consultations with interested parties and having regard to the requirements of local industry. I am not in a position to estimate the breakdown in the projected student numbers as between students resident in Dublin and those from the rest of the country.
