Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Roscommon, School Funding.

John Connor

Question:

332 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Education the reason for the inordinate delay in finalising grant payments to the Committee of Management of St. John's School, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon for heating, plumbing, electrical and other works sanctioned for this primary school over two years ago; if she intends to have this matter finalised; and if so, when.

My Department paid a substantial grant instalment in respect of the mechanical and electrical installations at St. John's national school, Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon to the school authorities in October, 1988. Inspections by my Department's engineer have established that there is a large number of defects in the installations and until these have been made good and the final accounts approved it will not be possible to pay the balance of the grant. My Department wrote fully to the school authorities in the matter in January, 1990.
