Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Site Purchase.

John Bruton

Question:

338 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if she will recommence negotiations with the purchase of a site for a second level school in Dunboyne, County Meawth, in view of the extra housing development undertaken and planned in the area in the last number of months.

The most recent review of the Dunboyne, Ashbourne and Blan-chardstown areas, consisting of a full examination of demographic factors, housing trends and the availability of post-primary places in the general area, revealed that the provision of a post-primary school in Dunboyne is not warranted at present.

Accordingly the question of recommencing negotiations regarding the purchase of a site for a second-level school in Dunboyne does not arise at present.

This matter will however continue to be reviewed by my Department in the light of the most up to date stastistical data for the area.
